Indian Institute of Legal Metrology, a unique pioneer institute of its nature, commonly known as IILM, is a statuary body established by the G.O.I under section 76 of the Stds of Wts & Ms Act, 1976 (60 of 1976). It is only one of the kinds not only in India but also an apex institute in the South and South East- Asia. This institute is working under direct control of Central Govt., Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Department of Consumer Affairs. It is wel-equipped with reputed, highly qualified, experienced faculty members, resourceful laboratories and other allied necessary facilities to enable it to function effectively in the field of legal metrology. The total area of IILM is about 70000 m2.
LOCATION OF INSTITUTE
The institute is located at 16 km northern direction from Ranchi Railway Station and approx 20 km from Ranchi, Birsa Munda Airport on a beautiful patch of land, full of gardens and greens which protect the laboratories from direct Sun rays, flying dust particles and is far away from industrial belt at Kokar, Ranchi. Kanke is 3 km away and on the eastern side of the Ranchi-Patratu Road. Ranchi is well approachable by Roads, Rails and Air. At Kanke, the institute is surrounded by Central as well as State Government Institutions like- Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) and Ranchi Veterinary College (RVC). IILM is on the way to RVC from Kanke Block Chowk hardly 200 m (North) from Block Chowk.
